Justin
Muna reminded me of the Corrs so unfortunately 4
Brian Jonestown Massacre liked the rocking out sixties vibes 7
The Last Internationale liked her voice and the white stripe stylee music 7.2
Tove Lo for pop i thought they were pretty good tunes and different lyrics 6.8
Totw: Soul on Fire, The Last Internationale
Strokes the classic debut album, every track great, great guitar and vocals, top lyrics, game changer 10
Andy
Muna - Not bad pop sounds, a bit 1975ish at times 6.5
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Lovely bit of psych rock. Some cracking tunes on here. Can get a bit doomy at times but I liked that 7.5
Last Internationale - Good rocking stuff 7
Tove Lo - Considering she's a Scandy pop princess I didn't totally love this one. She's quite brazen isn't she! A couple of decent tunes in there 6
TotW - Silenced
The Strokes - Yep, it's a cracker, doesn't get old 9.5
Erol
Muna - really enjoyed this. Upbeat indie disco with a good dose of synth. Shades of Churches and Fickle Friends but I can’t hear the Corrs, Justin! I’ve saved this to my Spotify library and will definitely listen to this again. 7.4
BJM - nothing outstanding here but the psychedelic vibe was fun at times. ‘You think I’m joking’ is a good track but my interest waned a bit towards the end of the album 5.8
Last Internationale - a solid rock experience. Soulful at times too. The opening track is a cracker. 6.8
Tove Lo - I like the front cover but the album itself is full of pretty flimsy pop tunes for the younger crowd that didn’t do much for me. 5.3
TOTW - What I Want by Muna.
The Strokes - this blew my socks off when it came out. It was a total game changer and still sounds great. Brilliantly uncomplicated but so effective. 9.7
Simon
Muna: seems to be quite a lot of this angsty, queer pop around at the moment. The singer has a nice voice and there were a couple of decent tracks but otherwise it's nothing to get the bunting out for. 5.5
Brian Jonestown Massacre: this kind of spaced out, 60s style psychedelia really pushes my buttons, and there's a lot of it here to like. 8
The Last Internationale: big, ballsy, bluesy rock n' roll - cracking stuff, surprised we've not come across them before. 7.8
Tove Lo: getting very bored with this stuff now - this is even worse than Muna, tedious and forgettable. 5
Strokes: this doesn't rock my world as much as it does for some of you but difficult to find much wrong with it as an album. 9
TotW: Brian JonesTown Massacre - Inefficable Mindfuck
Guy
Muna: I enjoyed this. Perhaps not surprising as I'm a HAIM fan. Some nice summery indie pop tunes. Silk Chiffon is a standout track with Phoebe Bridger. Not a hint of the Corrs about them. 7.2
Brian Jonestown Massacre: Another enjoyable record. It started strongly but tailed off a bit though. I liked the raw production on it with that slightly echoey JAMC vocal sound and could happily listen to them live. 7
The Last Internationale: Thought this was excellent. Her voice is cool and he can defo play the guitar! Only shame was they are again a Wednesday band at Mad Cool and most of us will miss them. Argh. 7.6
Tove Lo: I tend to agree with Simon that once you've heard one of these girl pop acts, you've heard them all. This was decent of its ilk but didn't blow my skirt up like some of the others. 6
Strokes: cracking album. Reminds me of that first Reading headline year every time I hear it. Raw and powerful. 9.5
TotW: The Last Internationale - Hit em with your blues
Sam
Muna : perfectly decent pop: 6.2
Brian Jonestown Massacre: bit disappointed sadly ! 6.3
The Last Internationale: absolutely banging rock : 8
Tove lo : perfectly decent pop 6.1
The Strokes : like all great albums it starts with a cracker and keeps on coming .. absolutely superb stuff : 9.5
Tune of the week : Hit em with your blues , The Last internationale
Jim
Muna - a few synth pop bangers at the start, then it moved into Haim ish territory which is OK for me, but somewhat fizzled out at the end. 6
BJM
Solid Psych rock that stayed energetic and didn't drift towards the wispy/dreamy style I'm less of a fan of, and many of their ilk seem to. MIndfuck was a TOTW contender. 7
Last Internationale -
Great stuff. The first and last few in particular are really good. Deap Vally meets Black Keys but also quite original. My mate Tom Morello is a fan apparently. A few TOTW contenders but i'll go with Mind Ain't free 7.5
Tove Lo
With you on this Andy, thought I was going to enjoy it more, but it drifred towards R&B and I found it a bit tedious by the end 5
Strokes 10. In my top 10 GOAT for sure, if not 5. One of the few true game changers of our time
Mark
Muna - didn't like this as much of some of you, a bit bland and indistinguishable from so many other similar sounding acts around at the moment - 6
Brian Jonestown Massacre - nice bit of scuzzy psychedelic garage rock, had a touch of Spacemen 3 in parts - 7.5
Last Internationale - think I misjudged this a bit at first, didn't massively rate it initially but went back to it this morning and it's a pretty decent mix of White Stripes / Mysterines, vocal had a touch of Florence as well I thought - 7
Tove Lo - there's a lot of this synth pop around masquerading as something deeper and more indie, this is pretty good I thought (although not as good as Baby Aueen from a few weeks back) - 6.5
TOTW - Ineffable Mindfuck, by BJM
Matt
Muna - 6 serviceable pop
Brian Jonestown Massacre- 6.5 psycho scuzz
Last Internationale - 6.8
Tove Lo - 5.5 undistinguished
